cyrus marine and eradicate?

how water contamination affects fuel and fuel storage tanks
As a result of natural condensation, water can always be found at the base of fuel storage tanks.

This is particularly prevalent in warmer climates, and is found in cooler climates in summer when warm conditions provide the perfect breeding ground for microbial growth 'the diesel bug' which may be found in all types of fuel oils.

Bacteria in fuel tanks occur where fuel and water interface and if left unchecked, grow until the entire contents of the tank are affected.

In time, the bacteria release a by-product closely related to hydrochloric acid, with the capacity to corrode steel and puncture holes within the fuel tanks, causing leakage and water ingress.

Subsequently, microbial contamination in fuel  - 'the diesel bug' - adversely affects engine performance; a brownish-black sludge clogs-up fuel filters, causing fuel starvation and engine stoppage.

Droplets of water carried in fuel passing through injectors and nozzles cause excessive wear and "pitting", reducing the injector's ability to provide an even spray pattern.

The result of this damage is an increase in smoking and fuel consumption.

'PREVENT WATER IN DIESEL FUEL'

A low cost product that prevents contamination of diesel fuel by water and optimises fuel and engine performance is now available for the fishing industry.

A fuel treatment product, Cyrus Marine, has been formulated to combat water contamination and diesel bug.

Water in fuel tanks is an unavoidable result of condensation, caused by the heat from engines, or fuel discharged into tanks in warm weather. It can become a problem after some time, particularly in vessels without draining facilities.

Filtration helps to remove some excess water, but it is still very difficult to prevent water from reaching and passed through injectors. Even small droplets of water gradually corrode injector tips causing 'pitting' which adversely affects the atomisation of fuel.

Heat and water combined with fuel may also result in 'diesel bug' in tanks, causing filter blockage and even engine stoppage through fuel starvation.

Some quayside storage tanks are also probably contaminated with 'self-
inducing' bacteria, thriving in stagnant conditions, which intensify the possibility of developing 'bug' problems in a boat's fuel tanks.

They say adding Cyrus Marine treatment to fuel:

  • disperses any normal accumulation of water in tanks, turning it into a combustible solution by 'bonding' water and fuel together
  • protects injectors from damage caused by water, prolonging injector life
  • prevents 'diesel bug'
  • cleans injectors and the entire fuel system
  • roves fuel atomisation, reducing smoke, sulphur output and fuel consumption.

Cyrus dosage is 4000 to 1, although in cases of severe water contamination, dosage should be increased according to the severity of the problem.

Alan Stewart of Cyrus Energy Ltd says "the cost of treatment is fractional, and the improved component life and savings in fuel consumption greatly outweigh the cost.
"Cyrus is not designed to destroy diesel 'bug', only prevent it from occurring. Where bacteria is present, we suggest application of our 'Killit' biocide, which is a "one-
off" treatment to finally remove this problem. Regular dosage of Cyrus Marine thereafter will ensure optimum fuel and engine performance"
