why use
CYRUS MARINE and ERADICATE
understanding water contamination
in fuel
and fuel storage tanks
Water can always be found lying
at the base of fuel storage tanks as a result of
condensation: a natural phenomenon.
This happens particularly in warmer
climates, and also in cooler climates in summer when
warm conditions provide the perfect breeding ground
for microbial growth - 'diesel bug' -
which is found in all types of fuel oils and is exacerbated by the
presence of biofuel.
Bacteria in fuel are found at the interface of
fuel and water and, if left unchecked, grow until the entire contents
of the tank are affected.
In time, the bacteria release a by-product closely related to
hydrochloric acid, with the capacity to
corrode steel and puncture holes within the fuel tanks,
causing leakage and water ingress.
'Diesel
bug' contamination in fuel adversely affects engine performance; a
brownish-black sludge clogs-up fuel filters, causing
fuel
starvation and engine stoppage.
Droplets of water carried with fuel through
injectors and nozzles will cause excessive wear and “pitting”, reducing the injector’s ability
to provide an even
spray pattern.
The result of this damage is an increase in smoking and fuel
consumption.
CYRUS MARINE fuel conditioner and ERADICATE fuel biocide used individually or in combination as required, offer an easy and economical solution to ensuring clean and efficiently operating engines at minimal cost.
personal experience
- Adrian Lauder
The fuel in my charter boat had a severe attack of diesel bug
most probably caused by a dirty diesel fill - the fuel filters and
fuel lines were clogged with black or brown sludge, and you could
clearly see tiny black particles in a test bottle of fuel drawn off,
which 'grew' into slimy sludge over a couple of days.
I tried a
number of products, but found CYRUS MARINE and ERADICATE
were the only ones which cured the problem.
I used both products together - ERADICATE to kill the bug and CYRUS
MARINE to protect my engines and injectors, and to stabilise the fuel and absorb any
moisture so that it could be burnt.
Initially I added CYRUS MARINE at full strength 1:2000 and
ERADICATE at 1:1000 rate - I got through a lot of fuel filters as
the dead material came through the system and I removed it - it
wasn't possible to drain and clean my built-in fuel tanks.
I've been able to reduce the application rates, and now continue to use CYRUS MARINE and ERADICATE together
in preventative doses - 1:2000 - as a
precaution against any future contamination - which gives me peace
of mind taking passengers to sea.
I have become an Authorised Distributor of CYRUS ENERGY products based on my experience!
